On Wednesday, Gallup released a new poll revealing a significant decline in Americans’ support for LGBTQ issues. For twenty years leading up to the early 2020s, there was growing support for LGBTQ issues annually, until it peaked in 2022.
Over the last five years, Americans’ support for LGBTQ issues has consistently edged downward. The poll found that 65% of Americans favor “same-sex marriage,” which is down six percentage points from the high of 71% in 2022. The poll also revealed that 62% of Americans view gay or lesbian relations as morally acceptable, which is the lowest percentage since 2016.
The poll showed that Americans who view changing one’s gender as morally acceptable sit at 38%, which is an eight-percentage-point decrease over the last five years. This decrease in support of LGBTQ issues primarily comes from registered Republicans.
In 2022, 55% of Republicans said they favored legal same-sex marriage, but now, according to Gallup, that percentage is at 37%. That is a whopping collapse of 22%. In addition, those registered as Independents have also decreased their support for same-sex marriage by six percentage points since 2022. Democrats, however, still remain at 87% in favor of same-sex marriage, which is the exact percentage they were at in 2022.
It is encouraging to see that more and more Americans are realizing that the disastrous Obergefell decision and the sexual revolution as a whole are failing, especially for families and children. Americans are realizing in increasing numbers that sexual immorality and perversion do not lead to a flourishing society. May this trend only continue to increase, and may we as believers in Christ continue to advocate for God’s perfect design for human sexuality in our nation. As we know, the nation that follows His commands and ways will experience His blessings (Psalm 33:12).

Father, we praise You for the decline of support for LGBTQ issues in the United States, as those issues are clearly condemned in Scripture. Lord, may more and more Americans come to see Your perfect design for human sexuality and the flourishing it brings to a society that aligns their lives with it. Father, strengthen us to be faithful and effective advocates for Biblical truth in our culture. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
