LEXINGTON, KY – The Family Foundation is saddened to learn that Dr. James Dobson has passed away at age 89. Best known for founding and leading Focus on the Family for many years, Dr. Dobson was an unapologetic champion for Biblical truth, marriage, family, the right to life, and the responsibility for Christians to be “salt and light” in society.
Dr. Dobson authored more than 70 books dedicated to the preservation of the family, was a Radio Hall of Fame broadcaster, and also founded Family Policy Alliance, formerly Focus on the Family Action, that serves as the national ally hosting the alliance of nearly 40 state Christian family policy councils, including The Family Foundation in Kentucky.
“I thank the Lord for Dr. Dobson’s life and unbelievable legacy,” said David Walls, executive director of The Family Foundation. “His Kingdom impact for families included helping build an alliance of state Family Policy Councils, including The Family Foundation here in Kentucky, that are advancing Biblical values in states across the nation. Dr. Dobson’s vision for a movement that would defend life, marriage, and religious freedom is the vision that The Family Foundation continues to work for each and every day,” Walls concluded.
Kent Ostrander, founder of The Family Foundation added, “Dr. James Dobson is certainly a gift from the Lord. His vision of creating independent, public policy organizations in each state working on behalf of the family and the values that make families strong, was timely and immeasurably consequential. I thank God for Dr. Dobson.”
Dr. Dobson played an instrumental role in supporting The Family Foundation during the early days of the organization, with the Foundation’s founder and former executive director, Kent Ostrander, meeting with Dr. Dobson and other early Family Policy Council leaders prior to the founding of The Family Foundation in late 1989. While we are saddened by his passing, we are thankful for his tremendous legacy and that he is now in the presence of our Savior.
