U.S. Senate Vote on the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act

“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24

Months ago, the United States House of Representatives in a vote count of 267 – 157, voted in favor of the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act.” According to reports, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is positioned to bring this to the U.S. Senate floor for a vote today.

The mission of the “Respect for Marriage Act” is to ensure by law that same-sex couples have the right to “marry” by codifying and even going beyond the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision of Obergefell v. Hodges. In other words, this is an attempt by the federal legislature to redefine the sacred union of marriage.

The U.S. Senate is threatening to do immense damage to our nation by devaluing the institution of marriage. This act would uproot marriage in our nation and would erode away this bedrock institution that allowed our nation to reach such great heights.

Furthermore, this radical piece of legislation threatens our precious right to religious liberty because it opens up a path for organizations of faith to be targeted legally for simply holding to a Biblical view of marriage. Also, this bill hurts children as some needy children will be placed in fatherless or motherless homes due to couples being of the same sex. The exceedingly dangerous (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act must be defeated by the U.S. Senate today in order to protect our nation.

LET US PRAY…
Father, please fill each and every U.S. Senator with Your Spirit and empower them to vote against this dangerous piece of legislation. Lord, help our nation to understand that You alone have the authority to define what marriage is. Father, help us to faithfully defend the truth that marriage is only between one man and one woman. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
