Let Us Pray: Thanking God for Independence Day

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17

Today, on this Fourth of July, Americans will gather across our beloved nation to fellowship with family and friends, grill out, enjoy great food, and watch fireworks light up the night sky. This is all done to celebrate the nearly 250 years of American Independence.

Independence Day is deeply cherished by Americans, as it is a time set aside to show gratitude to God for the birth of our great nation and its independence from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence was signed by the new government of the United States in 1776, which was 249 years ago.

Thomas Jefferson was the chief author of the Declaration of Independence, and in the document, he spelled out with great clarity the reasons why the United States was seeking independence from Great Britain. The deep longing and aspiration for American Independence is what led to the necessary but gruesome Revolutionary War.

A massive price was paid for our freedom and for our American Independence in the Revolution against Great Britain. The bloody war lasted for a long eight years and over 25,000 American patriots gave their all for the country and the freedom we now are blessed to live in and experience. As we celebrate today, let us not get so overwhelmed in the celebrations that we forget to remember the men who fought so valiantly to ensure victory in the war and freedom for these United States.

LET US PRAY…

Father, thank You for the incredible blessing of living in the United States where we have the freedom to live our lives due to our independence as a nation. Lord, we are so thankful for the men who paid the ultimate price for our liberty, so that we may live in this free land. Father, we praise You for allowing us the blessing of being Americans and living in this nation You have so graciously blessed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
