Let Us Pray: Swimming Against the Cultural Tide

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2

In America today, Christians live in a post-Christendom culture where Biblical values at large are seemingly becoming less and less important as time moves on. It is evident that much of our society’s values here in America are not in line with Biblical principles.

This is why when Christians in our culture stand for Biblical truth we feel as if we are swimming against the cultural tide. This is nothing new, for centuries believers in Christ have had to fight against conforming to the customs of this world.

Many centuries ago, the Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Rome as they themselves were swimming against the cultural tide at the time and urged them, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world.” Scripture speaks clearly that as Christians we are never to adopt or adhere to the values in our culture that are in direct opposition to God’s Word.

Not only are believers called to refuse to conform to the pattern of this world, but we are also called to swim upstream actively trying to influence the culture to change and to live in alignment with Scriptural truth (Matthew 5:13-14). We are literally to work diligently to change and transform the culture in Kentucky and America to be one that is glorifying to God.

Be encouraged, being not “conformed to the pattern of this world” will at times feel like we are swimming upstream in our culture, however, it is precisely when one starts to feel the world’s resistance because of one’s Biblical convictions and courage will one start to influence their society for Christ.

LET US PRAY…

Father, strengthen our resolve to never conform to the ways and patterns of the world. Lord, empower us to transform and influence our culture for Your glory and honor. Father, may Your Name be honored in all of our efforts for You in this world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
