“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” – Isaiah 1:17
In February, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) made a necessary and important policy change to protect women’s sports after President Trump signed an executive order to keep men out of women’s sports. With the policy change, the NCAA restricted women’s sports to only allow biological women to compete in them.
Also, in February, the U.S. Department of Education sent a letter to the NCAA requesting it to “restore to female athletes all records, titles, awards, and recognitions wrongfully credited to male athletes.” At this point, the NCAA has not acted on the request from the Department of Education.
Now, in another effort to see to it that the NCAA rights the wrongs of allowing biological males to steal records and championships from female athletes, 27 state attorneys general, which includes Kentucky’s AG Russell Coleman, are demanding in a formal letter to the NCAA that the association reinstate records and honors to women athletes that were wrongfully given to men. The letter requests the NCAA restore “all championships, titles, wins, awards, records, and other recognitions that were wrongfully awarded to male athletes competing in NCAA women’s category events.”
The influential coalition of attorneys general also state in the letter that the former NCAA policy of allowing men to compete in women’s sports erodes the whole point of Title IX, which is supposed to ensure equal opportunities for women in athletics and education. The letter states, “The NCAA should take this step for former athletes to preserve the integrity of Title IX and show your support for the women harmed by years of bad policy.”
LET US PRAY…
Father, we are thankful for these 27 attorneys general for their courageous efforts to protect female athletes. Lord, we pray that the NCAA will right the wrongs of the past and act on these attorneys general’s requests to restore records and honors that have been stolen from these women. Father, we are thankful for those who have boldly fought to protect women’s sports. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
