Let Us Pray

Servants of Christ

“This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.” – 1 Corinthians 4:1

The Bible teaches that when a person becomes a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, that person no longer is ruled by their selfish desires. Instead, they become slaves to Christ (Romans 6:22). The believer has been purchased by the precious blood of Christ and He has become their Lord and master. This means they must follow Him without reservation.

Slaves serve their master. As slaves of Christ, believers are servants of Christ. We have been saved to serve our Master, our Lord Jesus Christ. The believer’s life, then, is to be a life marked by humble and faithful service to our Lord and others.

Christ is our ultimate example of what humble service looks like. During Christ’s time on earth, a bondslave was the lowest of all household servants. They were tasked with the unpleasant appointment of having to wash the feet of those who entered the house. Jesus used this lowly job of washing others’ feet to demonstrate how we should humbly serve others.

The day before He was crucified, the disciples gathered around to celebrate Passover with Jesus. During that time, He did the unthinkable. He knelt down and washed all twelve of the disciples’ feet, one by one. Let us joyfully and faithfully follow Jesus’ example of service, regardless of how lowly or difficult the task Christ calls us to may be.

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower us to be obedient as we serve You and those around us. Lord, thank You for being the ultimate example of what it means to be a loyal servant. Father, may we be faithful to accomplish any task You call us to, no matter how difficult it may be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
