Sadie M. Flores, a 25-year-old middle school teacher at the Graves County School District in Kentucky, is facing significant criminal charges after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with an underaged student. Administrators at the school district first had allegations reported to them. They then notified the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, which opened a criminal investigation.

Detectives seized electronic records and conducted interviews. One of which was with Flores herself last Friday afternoon, right before she was taken into custody. As a result of the investigation, Flores was arrested on a felony charge of grooming a minor.

This charge comes from the newly enacted anti-grooming law, HB 4, that took effect in Kentucky on July 15th. The new law, sponsored by Rep. Marianne Proctor and overwhelmingly passed by the Kentucky General Assembly, criminalizes the calculated manipulation and trust-building behavior used by adults to groom a minor for sexual abuse.

This is what good, honorable, and just laws do: protect people, especially those who cannot protect themselves. As we evaluate the fruit of this God-honoring law, let us commit to advocating for more righteous legislation in the Kentucky legislative sessions ahead. When righteous laws go into effect, people are protected and can flourish.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we pray that this newly enacted anti-grooming law will continue to provide protection for minors all throughout Kentucky. Lord, may we faithfully and effectively advocate for many more laws in Kentucky that provide protection for the vulnerable. Father, may we as Your people be found faithful in our effort to share Your truth with our world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
