Let Us Pray

Pray for Those in High Position (January 5, 2022)

PRAY FOR THOSE IN HIGH POSITIONS

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Yesterday, the Kentucky 2022 General Assembly officially launched into session. As this year’s legislative session begins, we are once again reminded of how important our legislature is as it will determine the path forward into the future for our beloved Commonwealth.

It is easy to become inundated with the highly important bills that will come about as the session progresses. Although we must give ourselves fully to the work of fulfilling the Scriptural command of being salt and light by ensuring that the family and the Biblical principles that make them strong are protected in Frankfort, let us not forsake another extremely important Biblical command.

The Bible instructs believers to pray for those in high positions. May we daily lift those in authority over us up to the Lord and pray for them earnestly. As we pray for those in high positions let us remember that it is ultimately God Himself who places our rulers in positions of authority. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 13:1, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Let us pray for our rulers with joy and confidence knowing that God holds the hearts of kings in His hand and that he can turn their hearts whenever and however He chooses (Proverbs 21:1). Our “Let Us Pray” devotionals throughout this year’s legislative session will have names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for those in high positions.

LET US PRAY . . .
Father, help us, as Your people to follow Your command to pray for those in high positions on a regular basis. Father, please fill all of those in authority over us with Your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding so that our state and nation may be honoring to You. Lord, we ask for Your blessings on this legislative session, may You be glorified in all ways throughout this General Assembly. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
