The Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) is the largest Presbyterian denomination in America. A few weeks ago, the denomination had its 227th General Assembly, when the denomination’s delegates voted 441-30 in favor of a measure called “GEN-02.”
The denomination’s overwhelming vote in favor of GEN-02 was a measure to publicly express support for transgender procedures for adults and even children. PCUSA called transgender procedures, like other transgender advocates do, “gender-affirming care.” They said those procedures are “medically necessary and evidence based for the well-being of many transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people who experience symptoms of gender dysphoria or distress that result from having one’s gender identity not match their sex assigned at birth.” Furthermore, GEN-02 condemns state bans on transgender procedures for minors like the one in place here in Kentucky (SB 150).
This action was a public rejection of God and the authority of Scripture. Instead of affirming that God created each person as an embodied male or female for a good purpose (Genesis 1:27,31), the PCUSA decided to make themselves their own god.
At this same general assembly, the PCUSA voted to strike down a proposal that would have required their ordained ministers to practice monogamy. This proposal was ruled out of order on a technicality, and opposed by LGBTQ members who claimed it targeted queer communities. The fact that requiring ministers to be faithful to their spouses was shot down, but transitioning children was overwhelmingly supported, is very telling.
The PCUSA is like the church in Pergamum in Revelation 2 verses 12 to 17. Jesus condemns this church for holding to false teaching and practicing sexual immorality. Yet, because our God is gracious, he also calls this church to repent and return to Him. The PCUSA should heed Jesus’ warning and return to God and his Word before it is too late.

Father, we pray that You will bring conviction to the delegates of the PCUSA, and may they come to repentance. Lord, empower Your church to speak clearly to these issues and defend the authority of Scripture and the truth that You have created each person male or female for a good purpose. Father, we praise You that You have created each of us in Your image. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
