McConnell Stepping Down, Ending Historic Run

“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” – Daniel 2:21

The man who is often labeled the “most powerful Republican in Washington” recently announced that he will step down as the upper chamber’s GOP leader after November’s elections. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is ending a 17-year stretch that made him the longest-serving party leader in Senate history.

The Senate Minority Leader made his announcement on the Senate floor on Wednesday. McConnell is eighty-two years of age and has been serving as a senator in Kentucky since 1984, which also makes him the longest-serving senator to represent the Commonwealth as well.

McConnell’s most pivotal work is likely his efforts in the confirmation of conservative justices that reshaped the judiciary. Many believe that his historic efforts to appoint conservative justices will be his defining legacy.

During President Trump’s administration, McConnell literally guided hundreds of conservative judges to lifetime appoints to the bench through the Senate confirmation process. McConnell has made clear that he intends to finish his term in the Senate which expires in 2026.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we thank You for the service of Senator Mitch McConnell and the good work that he has accomplished. Lord, we praise You especially for his work in guiding hundreds of conservative judges to lifetime bench appointments. Father, please raise up a leader to take his place who will boldly take a stand for Biblical truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
