Let Us Pray

Anxiety, worry, and fear seem to be the driving emotions in many people’s lives today. Honestly, believers in the Lord are not exempt from this. We live in a world full of anxiety, and many people allow their worries to consume them and steal their joy.

The Bible teaches us that we are not to be slaves to anxiety. The Apostle Paul commands us to “not be anxious about anything” (Philippians 4:6). Although we are all prone to experience anxiety and worry at times, the Scriptures give us the antidote to those emotions: trust in the Lord.

The Apostle Peter commands us to deal with our anxieties by trusting in the Lord and giving all of our anxieties to Him to handle. To illustrate this, let’s say you have a massive boulder on your shoulders that you are trying to carry. You are struggling, and you know it won’t take too long before the weight of the boulder crushes you. Then all of a sudden someone much stronger than you offers to take it off of your back and to carry it for you. When you give the boulder to the stronger person, you free yourself from the boulder’s weight and the threat it poses to ultimately crush you.

That is exactly what Peter is describing when he says to cast our anxieties on the Lord. We were not made to carry the weight of our anxieties, and if we attempt to, those anxieties and worries pose a serious threat to us. They can literally crush us. Christ cares for us and loves us. Because of that, He is more than willing to carry our anxieties for us. Whatever is causing you to worry today, give it to the Lord and experience His supernatural peace.

Father, remind us daily that trusting in You and in Your ways is the avenue that leads to a life free of worry and anxiety. Lord, empower us to cast whatever worry we have today on You so that we can experience Your peace. Father, thank You for caring for us and loving us in the incomprehensible way that You do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
