“So that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:12
On Sunday, Charlie Kirk’s memorial service was held at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, where the Arizona Cardinals play their home football games, and without a doubt, it was one of the largest funerals in United States history. The stadium was completely packed, and it is believed that over 200,000 people turned out for the memorial service. Over 20 million people tuned in to watch the memorial service either on TV or online. Some estimates have put this number at 100 million streams online.
In attendance were high-profile individuals such as President Trump and Vice President Vance, both of whom spoke at the event, and almost all members of President Trump’s cabinet were there. To say that the service to honor Charlie Kirk was star-studded would be an understatement.
The greatest aspect of the event, however, was not that the President and his team were there; it was not that hundreds of thousands were in attendance (although it does show Charlie’s gigantic influence and reach), but it was the fact that Christ was truly worshipped and glorified. From the beginning to the end of the hours long service, Christ was praised through song, Christ was preached by Charlie’s pastor, who gave a clear Gospel presentation, and Christ was exalted over and over by speaker after speaker.
The power of the Gospel was clearly seen when Charlie’s widow, Erika Kirk, spoke and forgave the man who assassinated her husband. Erika stated, “I forgive him… I forgive him because it’s what Christ did and is what Charlie would do.” The service from beginning to end was Christ-centered and was a great witness to the Christian faith. The service mirrored how Charlie lived – to glorify Christ!
LET US PRAY…
Father, we once again praise You for the undeniable impact that Charlie Kirk had on this world for You, which was evident by the memorial service held for him. Lord, we are so thankful for the Christian witness that was shown to the world through the event. Father, empower us to glorify You in all aspects of our life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
