Big Banks Discriminated Against Conservatives and Christians

In August of 2025, President Trump issued an executive order titled “Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans.” The order declares that no American should be denied access to financial services because of political or religious beliefs or lawful business activities.

The order ensures that banks base decisions on an objective, individualized, risk-based evaluation, not a faulty “reputation risk” analysis. “Reputation risk” evaluations have been used by some financial institutions to specifically discriminate against American conservatives. They have also been used to de-bank people for their political and religious beliefs.

In response to the executive order, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) conducted an investigation and, on October 14th published the findings in a report. The investigation examined policies, procedures, practices, and individual customer decisions of major banks, including JPMorgan Chase Bank, Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo Bank, U.S. Bank, Capital One, PNC Bank, TD Bank, and BMO Bank. The investigation concluded that “ambiguous reputation risk policies” were too vague to justify de-banking certain groups.

The report revealed “irrefutable evidence” of banks discriminating against and refusing financial services to those who held conservative political views and Christian beliefs. The report provides evidence of big banks using ambiguous “reputational risk” standards to punish and cancel accounts of faith-based nonprofits for holding Christian views.

Thankfully, the Trump Administration is working diligently to stop the weaponization of financial services. No American or American group should be denied financial services from banks just because of their religious and political beliefs. Hopefully, state legislatures and Congress will take strong action to ensure that all financial institutions, both government and private, are prohibited from religious and political discrimination in banking decisions.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we thank You for the blessing of living in a nation where we can freely live out our deeply held religious beliefs. Lord, we pray that legislators at the state and federal levels will take the initiative to ensure everyone is protected from discriminatory de-banking practices. Father, may our First Amendment rights always be protected so that we can freely live out our Biblical convictions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
