“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” – Colossians 2:8
Baylor University is a private Christian university, founded as a Baptist institution and located in Waco, Texas. The historic university is the oldest operating university in the state of Texas. In recent days, however, Baylor has been the epicenter of a firestorm surrounding its acceptance of a grant aimed at fostering LGBT inclusion in the Church.
On June 30th, Baylor University announced that it had accepted a $643,401 grant from the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation for its Center for Church and Community Impact (C3I), which is in the School of Social Work. The school received the grant to “better understand the disenfranchisement and exclusion of LGBTQIA+ individuals and women within congregations to nurture institutional courage and foster change.”
Currently, Baylor University remains affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, which upholds the Biblical teachings on human sexuality and marriage. Since Baylor’s acceptance of the grant, the university received intense backlash as it was acting against the Biblical convictions of the university, although this is not the first instance of that.
Days ago, Baylor University announced that it has officially rescinded the LGBT “inclusion” grant. Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone noted the concern and confusion that the grant’s acceptance caused and thankfully, clarified, “We affirm the biblical understanding of human sexuality as a gift from God, expressed through purity in singleness and fidelity in marriage between a man and a woman.”
LET US PRAY…
Father, we praise You for Baylor University’s decision to rescind the LGBT “inclusion” grant. Lord, empower Baylor and all Christian universities and colleges to stay true to Your Word. Father, strengthen the leaders of Baylor University to return the school to its Biblically faithful founding mission. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
