America’s Preteens on Path Toward Deserting Biblical Christianity

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” – 1 Timothy 4:1

Prominent Christian Researcher Dr. George Barna and the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University recently released a concerning study on the future of preteens’ Christian faith here in America. The data focuses on children who are between the ages of eight to twelve.

In response to the findings of the study, Barna stated, “we are on the precipice of Christian invisibility in this nation unless we get serious about this crisis and invest heavily in fixing what’s broken.” Tragically, the study revealed that America’s preteens are on a path toward deserting Biblical Christianity in record numbers.

The study found that only 21% of America’s preteens view the Bible as the source to determine right from wrong. Only one in five of those surveyed believe that absolute moral truth exists. Only 36% believe that the means to eternal salvation is by confessing their sins and asking Jesus Christ to save them from the consequences of their sin.

The research revealed more concerning findings as well and tragically showed that preteens are just living out what they are being taught by their parents and ministry leaders. Parents and ministry leaders must rise to the occasion and help shape a Biblical worldview in the next generation.

Barna stated, “Parents, in particular, have a duty to focus on and invest in the development of their child’s worldview, which is simply their decision-making filter for life. If parents do not fill that vacuum, other sources — such as the media, the schools, and even the child’s peers — will influence that worldview construction.”

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower parents all across our nation to step up and teach Your truth to their children. Lord, may this path that America’s preteens are on change and may they at large adopt and adhere to Your truth. Father, may Your Church be strong and courageous and never shrink back from teaching Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
