Let Us Pray

Pray for Kentucky (December 13, 2021)

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

This past Friday evening was a night of horror for many people across several states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky, as numerous tornadoes and storms swept across a huge geographical area leaving a path of destruction in many communities.

Western Kentucky was hit especially hard, with casualties and significant destruction reported in several counties, including Graves, Marshall, Warren and Hopkins. Gov. Andy Beshear has said it’s likely the death toll will exceed 100. As we continue to learn more about the unbelievable damage and loss impacting so many of our fellow Kentuckians, please join us in continuing to pray for all those impacted.

Please also specifically pray for our own Baxter Boyd, The Family Foundation’s Church Outreach & Christian Engagement Coordinator and the lead author of our Let Us Pray devotionals. Baxter and his family live in western Kentucky and had significant damage to their home and neighborhood.

In times of loss and hurt, it is all the more important to remember to keep our eyes on the Lord and take our refuge and strength in Him. As it says in 2 Corinthians 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

LET US PRAY . . .

Father, our heart breaks for those that were impacted by the terrible storms in Kentucky. Lord, please surround all those impacted, including Baxter and his family, with your presence and give them your peace. Lord, we praise you for being a God who comforts the hurting in their time of need. Help us to remember to keep our eyes on you so that we can comfort those in trouble with the peace of God that only comes from You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
