HB 40 establishes the last Wednesday in September as “A Day of Prayer for Kentucky’s Students.” The date coincides with “See You at the Pole,” the annual event where students gather around their school flag poles for student sponsored and led prayer prior to the start of the school day. During his first year in office, Gov. Bevin pronounced the last Wednesday of September as a Day of Prayer Over Students. However, currently, either the governor or the legislature must proclaim that annually. HB 40 codifies the day for Kentuckians of all faith traditions to pray for students and educators, ensuring it will occur annually, regardless of who is in the Governor’s Mansion.
