Rep. Larry Brown

Twenty one states now require divorce/co-parenting classes. With this bill, Kentucky will join those states that care about children of divorce. Half of Kentucky already requires this through the simple local court rules, including Jefferson County. HB 269 insures that each divorcing couple with children will receive four hours of valuable instruction by research-based experts on co-parenting issues.  HB 269 extends the waiting period for cases with children to a year, which is consistent with many other states. It also insures that divorcing parents do not rush the most important decision in the lives of their children. This law would not affect divorce cases with no children, but has been called “This bill is the most pro-child bill of this session.”
