There’s a lot of talk about the expansion of gambling being the answer to Kentucky’s funding problems, but gambling does NOT create any new wealth, it merely makes wealth change hands.
Gambling shifts assets from the hands of families into the hands of the gambling industry, so that government can take its cut on the side.
Join me in calling our legislators and encouraging them to take a stand against gambling!

Expanded gambling will transfer billions of dollars out of Kentucky’s local communities. Sure, the state government will receive a small portion of those dollars as its cut. BUT it will be our local communities that pay dearly for that small amount of state tax revenue.

Gambling has corrupted Kentucky government before, when the FBI’s Operation Boptrot resulted in the conviction of more than a dozen legislators between 1992 and 1995.
With the expansion of gambling and billions of dollars going to the gambling industry, it will become the greatest contributor to and most influential group in the political process. This lends itself to the corruption of government that Kentucky has already been stung by in the past.

Doctors have a policy regarding their treatment of any patient: First, do no harm. Policymakers in Frankfort would do well to apply this wisdom to the gambling expansion decision.
Vulnerable families will be destroyed… gambling addiction can lead to marriage-damaging financial stress, alcoholism, drug use, child neglect and abuse, spouse neglect and abuse, divorce, depression, suicide, embezzlement, imprisonment and crime. Plus, it can affect children for a lifetime.

Former Attorneys General Gorman and Chandler have said that any expansion of gambling requires a constitutional amendment. So, why do those pushing for gambling expansion seem set on doing so without proposing a constitutional amendment for Kentucky citizens to vote on?

Gambling can already ruin lives and wreck families, but combining sports, smartphones, and real-time gambling is opening Pandora’s box.
Why would Kentucky’s lawmakers want to turn the cell phone everyone carries with them into a 24/7 accessible gambling device?
And they are doing so after the U.S. National Gambling Impact Study Commission found that the younger generation is showing nearly double the gambling addiction rate of the next-oldest generation.
