The Family Foundation Demands Beshear Administration End Gender Ideology in Education Programs After Trump Administration Puts States on Notice

LEXINGTON, KY – Yesterday, The Trump Administration put states, including Kentucky, on notice that they must eliminate gender ideology from their Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) if they seek to retain the federal funding for the program. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report on states that demonstrated numerous examples of radical gender ideology in state PREP education programs. 46 states and territories include gender ideology in their programs in violation of the federal statute that authorizes the PREP program. Kentucky is one of those states and is in line to receive $1.4 million from the program.

In a letter to the Beshear Administration, HHS outlined the specific content that Kentucky currently includes that violates the federal statute. Specifically, Kentucky currently guides instructors in how to speak to students about sexuality, gender identity, and other radical gender ideology topics. The materials even include a FAQ asking: “Why would someone with a penis not identify as a boy/man? Why would someone with a vulva not identify as a girl/woman?”.

Statement from David Walls, executive director of The Family Foundation, in response to the lawsuit:

I commend the Trump Administration for its unwavering dedication to protecting our children from radical gender ideology. This disclosure from HHS concerning Kentucky’s PREP program exposes, once again, the Beshear Administration’s relentless pursuit of a far-left agenda that seeks to indoctrinate our children. It is imperative that students learn the truth, not divisive propaganda, and it is wholly unacceptable for taxpayer dollars to be squandered on programs that erode the values held by Kentucky families.

“Governor Beshear must act immediately and decisively to purge all gender ideology from these educational programs. We call on the people of Kentucky to stand united and demand accountability from the Beshear Administration. Should the Governor fail to do what is right, it is the duty of the General Assembly to intervene and correct this egregious misuse of educational resources when they reconvene in Frankfort,” Walls concluded.
