“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” – Psalm 85:6
Recently, the Barna Group, in partnership with Gloo, released a new study in their State of the Church research initiative that revealed encouraging information about the younger American generations and their attendance at church services. The Barna research found that Gen Z and Millennials attend church services more frequently than the older generations.
The newly released research noted that younger Americans’ frequent and growing church attendance is not a typical trend of the past. The Barna group noted that the frequent attendance of church by younger generations in America is “historic” and a “generational reversal.”
The study revealed that Elders and Boomers, on average, both attend church services 1.4 times a month. Millennials, on average, attend church about 1.8 times per month, and Gen Z attends church 1.9 times a month on average.
It is very encouraging that younger Americans’ church attendance is at the highest point recorded since they became adults and have been included in Barna’s research. Sadly, the research also showed that the average American only attends church 1.6 times per month.
This revival, however, in younger Americans attending church is an encouraging moment that needs to be taken seriously by the Church as disciples in large numbers can be made and sent out into our nation to change our country and world for the cause of Christ.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we praise You for the revival taking place among younger Americans and their desire to be a part of the Church. Lord, may Your church make disciples of these younger Americans, so that they may impact our world for You. Father, empower Your church to be the salt and light that You have called us to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
