Let Us Pray

Sophie Cunningham is a high-profile Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star. She plays for the Indiana Fever and is recognized by many as one of the best players in the WNBA today. She is known for her tenacity and ferocity as a defender on the court.

Days ago, in an interview with ESPN, the nation witnessed that Cunningham is not only bold on the court. She’s also bold about the truth, as she said women athletes should be protected from biological men invading their sports.

In the interview Cunningham said, “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sports who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.” Almost instantly, Cunningham’s comments ignited a firestorm as she immediately started getting attacked by woke idealogues who falsely accused her of being “hateful.”

In the face of these attacks, Cunningham has shown great courage by not backing down. She spoke to reporters recently saying, “I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense… And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said.”

Just like Cunningham, we too should use any platform we have to speak the truth in love. To truly love our neighbor (Matthew 22:39), we must speak the truth to them, hoping they will abandon the lies of this world.

Father, we praise You for the courage of Sophie Cunningham and her desire to speak up for what is fair and right. Lord, may many more influential athletes use their platform to advocate for fairness in women’s sports. Father, empower Your people to love our neighbors enough to always speak the truth in love.
