When Leftist Politics Masquerade as Christian Beliefs

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” – 2 Timothy 4:3-4

The American political spotlight has been on James Talarico; a 36-year-old seminarian, former educator, and current Texas State Representative. On March 3rd, Rep. Talarico defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett to become the Democratic candidate in the race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator John Cornyn in Texas.

Talarico has garnered much praise from the liberal media and his fellow Democrats during this political run. Even former President Barrack Obama weighed in and described him as a “really talented young man.” Much of Talarico’s efforts, thus far, have centered on blending his extremely progressive politics and his heretical pro-LGBTQ religious views.

Sadly, like Governor Andy Beshear, Talarico regularly manipulates and contorts the Scriptures in an attempt to defend the Democratic platform and his positions. He has tried to build a Biblical cases for issues that are blatantly anti-Biblical. For example, in 2025, he appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast and erroneously argued that the incarnation, which is detailed in Luke 1, somehow supports abortion. He has even claimed that God is “non-binary” and that “…there are many more than two biological sexes — in fact, there are six.”

What needs to be made clear about Talarico is the fact that his leftist political beliefs have formed his religious beliefs. Much of what Talarico claims the Bible supports, like gay marriage, abortion, transgenderism, and all things LGBTQ, are, in actuality, clearly condemned in Scripture.

Genesis 2:24 defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman while Leviticus 18:22 calls homosexuality an abomination. Psalm 139:14 beautifully describes preborn life in the womb, while Exodus 21:22-23 condemns the killing of the unborn. Genesis 1:27 says God made human beings as male and female, while Deuteronomy 22:5 condemns posing as the opposite sex.

Instead of allowing the Scriptures to influence and determine his political positions, Talarico distorts Biblical teaching to support his political positions. As Christians, we have a moral obligation to speak up against this blatant misrepresentation of the Christian faith and God’s Holy Word.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please open James Talarico’s eyes to the serious error he is in as he attempts to distort the Scriptures to support anti-Biblical positions. Lord, strengthen us to always allow the truth of Your Word to shape our worldview and positions. Father, empower us, Your people, to defend Your truth and effectively advocate for it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
