Let Us Pray: Venezuelan Dictator Captured by U.S. Forces

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1

Historically, the nation of Venezuela has been a prosperous, flourishing state, existing as one of the wealthiest countries in the world. However, over the recent past, due to the actions of the nation’s communist dictator, Nicolas Maduro, the country has been absolutely ruined, as 70% of the nation lives in poverty, and citizens’ freedoms have been greatly restricted by the anti-Christian communism that has been forced on them. All of this and more has ultimately led to 8 million Venezuelans fleeing the country since 2017.

Maduro, for some time, has also led Venezuela to be a narco-terrorist state, where he has directed boats to carry drugs to the United States. Over the last few months, the Trump Administration has ordered strike against these drug boats in order to protect our nation.

On January 3rd, in the early morning hours, President Trump ordered a highly skilled military operation called “Operation Absolute Resolve,” where highly trained American Delta Force soldiers were flown and then rushed into Maduro’s home in Caracas, capturing him and his wife. The operation was carried out with incredible precision, portraying the unrivaled abilities of the American military. Now, Maduro is in custody and will stand trial in the United States for narcoterrorism and corruption.

Hopefully, this is the start of Venezuela being able to travel down the road to freedom. Venezuelans are human beings who have been made in the image of God who deserve to live in a country where they can flourish, prosper, and live out their faith.

As we begin our “Let Us Pray” devotionals for 2026, we will be taking time during the legislative session to encourage you to pray, by name, for our elected leaders (see below). Let us commit to praying regularly for our Kentucky governmental leaders to act in ways that bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ and are a blessing to our Commonwealth.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we pray that this operation carried out by the U.S. military will help lead Venezuela to become a state of freedom. Lord, may Venezuelans experience lives of prosperity and flourishing in the days ahead. Father, we thank You for our military and the men and women who serve our great nation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
