“Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.” – Proverbs 21:21
The University of Kentucky in past years has sponsored DEI-based graduation events which were outside of and in addition to the main commencement ceremony. These graduation celebrations centered on black students, those who identified as LGTBQ, and more.
Recently, however, the University of Kentucky announced that it will officially stop sponsoring any and all DEI-based graduation events or celebrations. According to a university spokesperson the change comes so that the school will be in compliance with state law and federal policy.
In a statement, the university stated, “Following a number of federal and state policy changes and directives, the university will no longer host identity-based or special-interest graduation celebrations.” The state law that the University of Kentucky is specifically coming into compliance with is House Bill 4 which was passed during this year’s legislative session here in Kentucky.
House Bill 4 requires all publicly funded universities to stop using state funds for DEI programs. The law specifically bans and defunds discriminatory DEI programs in our public universities. It is truly good to see Kentuckians’ tax money being protected from being used to celebrate discriminatory DEI programs like these graduation events at the University of Kentucky.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we praise You for the good that is coming out of the passing of House Bill 4 from this year’s legislative session here in Kentucky. Lord, may all discriminatory DEI programs in our public universities be completely stopped throughout our Commonwealth. Father, as we see the good that comes from good policy becoming law here in Kentucky, please strengthen us to be even more fervent in our advocacy for God-honoring policy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
