The Need for School Choice

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Throughout the Scriptures, there is a very clear principle that is elucidated and outlined for parents. The Biblical principle for parents is simply that they are to be the ones who first and foremost guide, lead, and train their children in the ways of the Lord.

With the current direction that the Kentucky Department of Education is heading in, by advocating for the public school system to adopt radical LGBTQ+ worldviews, school choice is becoming an absolute necessity for Kentucky’s parents. Kentucky parents are being forced to find alternative means for their children’s education to protect and make sure their children are not being forced to adopt LGBTQ+ ideologies.

The reality is that no one is better situated to make decisions for their children’s educational needs, more than the children’s parents. This is why in 2021, the Kentucky Legislature passed the “Educational Account Opportunity Act” that helped cover certain educational expenses for Kentucky families from a privately funded needs-based program. The program offered tuition assistance to help students attend PK-12 non-public schools in counties with more than 90,000 people.

Unfortunately, after the EOA Act was passed opponents to educational choice filed a lawsuit against the law and the Franklin County Circuit Court struck it down. Thankfully, now the Kentucky Supreme Court has taken up this case and is considering the constitutionality of the EOA Act.

The Kentucky Supreme Court needs to rule in favor of the EOA Act and allow parents to have full authority over their child’s education. Every child is unique and has their own needs. This is why it is critical for parents to be able to choose which educational option is best for their child, whether it be traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, or homeschooling.

LET US PRAY…
Father, help parents all over our Commonwealth to take seriously their Biblical mandate to protect, guide, and lead their children in Your ways. Lord, empower the Kentucky Supreme Court to reinstate the EOA Act so that parents can make the best decision for their children’s educational needs. Father, please lead the Kentucky Department of Education to put forward guidelines that help teachers teach truth and not false ideologies. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
