The Institution of Marriage Disrespected by the U.S. Senate

“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.”
– Mark 10:6-8

Tuesday, November 29, 2022, was a sad day for America, and many felt a great deal of disappointment. On Tuesday night, the U.S. Senate with a vote of 61-36 passed the radical so-called Respect for Marriage Act with twelve Republicans joining all of the Senate Democrats to vote favorably on the bill.

Unfortunately, all three amendments to the bill that would have provided some level of protection for religious liberty ended up not being added to its final passage. The (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act will once more go to the U.S. House of Representatives for further consideration.

The aim of this bill is to expand the definition of marriage and to enshrine same-sex marriage into federal law. No matter what the courts or the federal legislature decide, they need to realize that they do not have the power or authority to determine or define what marriage is.

God, Himself, is the One who created and defined the institution of marriage. The Biblical perspective on marriage could not be any clearer, this sacred union is only between one man and one woman. Although ultimately, marriage can never be redefined, it is still truly sad to see our elected leaders disrespect the sacred institution of marriage with the passing of this radical bill in the Senate.

LET US PRAY…
Father, please empower the U.S. House of Representatives to have the courage to vote down this radical bill. Lord, help us in every way to honor the sacred institution of marriage that You created and defined. Father, help our elected leaders to realize the truth that they have no power or authority to redefine marriage. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
