Let Us Pray: The Death Culture Increases

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10

Just days apart, last week, Governor JB Pritzker (D) of Illinois and Governor Kathy Hochul (D) of New York showed strong public support for the physician-assisted suicide bills in their state. This marks a significant increase in the death culture in the United States.

On December 12, Governor Pritzker signed Senate Bill 1950, commonly referred to as the “End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act.” This is Illinois’ version of the assisted suicide bill. The Illinois Governor wrongly and disturbingly praised the bill as one that amplifies “Freedom and Choice.”

On Thursday, Governor Hochul announced that she has found common ground with the state legislature on the “Medical Aid in Dying Act” and will sign it into law. Illinois and New York have now become the 12th and 13th states in America to legalize assisted suicide.

Both of the assisted suicide bills, in Illinois and New York, at this time, limit “medical aid in dying” to adults who are dealing with terminal diseases. However, this is a slippery slope, as other countries that have passed assisted suicide laws have seen great expansion over time.

Christians must stand against the death culture that is, unfortunately, increasing in our nation, as we know that Christ came that we “may have life” and have it “abundantly.” Life is a blessing, and every person’s life should be protected until natural death when God, who alone has the authority to give life and take it away, determines when one’s earthly life is over.

LET US PRAY…

Father, may our nation honor human life from the point of conception to natural death, as life is a blessing from You. Lord, empower Your people to stand strong against the death culture in every way possible. Father, may our Commonwealth remain a state where human life is cherished, and no form of the assisted suicide bill becomes law. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
