Let Us Pray

The Criminalization of Biblical Theology (January 27, 2022)

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

Right now, in the heartland of our nation, there is an attempt to criminalize Biblical theology and fidelity. These attempts to make Biblical truth unlawful are in the form of “conversion therapy bans” which are severe threats to our foundation Constitutional right to Religious Liberty.

Recently, the West Lafayette City Council in Indiana proposed an ordinance that would ban “conversion therapy.” If this ordinance becomes law, it will directly attack Biblically oriented churches by not allowing them to counsel minors who are seeking help from unwanted same-sex attraction and gender confusion.

One of the churches that will be preyed upon if this ordinance passes will be Faith Church in West Lafayette, Ind., as this church has offered a faithful ministry of Biblical counseling for over forty-five years. Since the ministry offers Biblical guidance for overcoming sinful LGBTQ+ behaviors for minors, the ministry is vulnerable to being penalized as it is promoting so-called “conversion therapy.”

This is nothing short of criminalizing historic and sacred Scriptural teachings on human sexuality. Here in KY, during this legislative session, Rep. Lisa Willner (D) filed House Bill 12, the “Youth Mental Health Protection Act” that “prohibits mental health professionals from engaging in sexual orientation and gender identity change efforts with a person under 18 years of age.”

Simply put, all licensed mental health care professionals will be prohibited from helping a child desiring to change from unwanted same-sex desires or from helping one change who is suffering from gender identity confusion. Biblical theology teaches that one can repent, change, and be cleansed from sin, “conversion therapy bans” on the other hand desire to keep minors in LGBTQ+ lifestyles that the Bible condemns.

LET US PRAY . . .
Father, help us to stop any advancement of the “Youth Mental Health Protection Act” as it will seek to keep minors in lifestyles that You have called sin. Lord, help Kentucky and America to understand that criminalizing Biblical truth will be absolutely devastating for our nation. Father, please protect our precious right to Religious Liberty and help us, to defend it faithfully. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
