The Call to be Courageous in a Hostile World

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

In Deuteronomy chapter thirty-one, the Scriptures reveal that Moses at this point in his life is greatly advanced in age and that he is in his last days and will not be able to lead the people of God into the promised land. Therefore, Moses starts to prepare the Israelites for his departure and for a new leader.

Moses knew that Israel would have to contend and fight valiantly in order to ultimately enter the promised land. Israel would have to battle with nations that from an earthly perspective were much stronger and more powerful than they were.

As Moses was about to exit the scene, and with this reality at play as the Israelites prepared to enter the promised land, Moses gave the people of God a firm command. He told them, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6). Moses knew that the Israelites must show great courage if they were to have victory in the battles that awaited them.

Today, American believers are facing many battles as well, such as, fighting to protect human life, fighting to protect the family, fighting to protect our religious freedom, and more. If we are to experience victories in defending our faith and standing for our Lord in this hostile world toward Biblical truth, we must have the courage to stand up and speak out.

Our command today is the exact one Moses gave to the Israelites all those centuries ago, and it is to be “strong and courageous.” If we truly desire to see our state and nation become a land that honors God, then we must as Christians answer the call to exhibit great courage in standing for Biblical truth in our hostile culture.

LET US PRAY…
Father, help Your people here in the United States to realize that we are not called to be passive but rather we are called to be “strong and courageous.” Lord, empower us with Your Spirit to stand strong for You in our hostile culture. Father, please bless our efforts to defend Your truth in our world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
