Let Us Pray: Supreme Court Declines Kim Davis’s Appeal to Overturn Obergefell

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24

On Monday, the United States Supreme Court released a list of orders revealing that it had, sadly, denied an appeal from Kim Davis to reconsider the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. The 2015, 5-4 landmark ruling in the Obergefell decision “legalized” same-sex “marriage” and imposed it on all 50 states.

Not long after the High Court’s Obergefell decision, Kim Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky, refused to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple because of her religious beliefs and was subsequently put in jail for six days due to her refusal. The same-sex couple whom Davis had denied a marriage license sued her, and in 2023, a jury found that Davis should pay them $100,000 in damages.

The harassment of Kim Davis did not stop there; in addition, the same-sex couple sought a payment from Davis for the fees and expenses for their attorneys. U.S. District Judge David L. Bunning ordered that Davis must pay a total of $260,104 in fees and expenses to attorneys who represented the same-sex couple.

Kim Davis’s attorneys from the Liberty Counsel then appealed the judge’s order, hoping that the case would be taken up by the U.S. Supreme Court, and that it would hopefully result in the overturning of Obergefell v. Hodges. Regrettably, the High Court denied Kim Davis’s petition without any comment.

The Obergefell decision was just as misguided as the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion. There is no such thing as a constitutional right to same-sex “marriage.” In addition, the Court’s imposition of counterfeit marriage has further harmed marriages and families, warped the law to commodify children, and has led to the destructive transgender ideology plaguing our society. The Obergefell decision needs to be overturned just as the Roe decision was.

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower our leaders to push for a return to Biblical marriage here in Kentucky and across the United States. Lord, may the U.S. Supreme Court one day overturn the deeply misguided Obergefell decision. Father, strengthen Your people to promote the truth about marriage in our culture, which is only between one man and one woman. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
