Let Us Pray: Students Return to School

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19

As hard as it is to believe, summer is quickly coming to an end as students across our state and nation are returning to school for another year. Students are preparing to enter a new grade, a new chapter in their young lives, which undoubtedly can bring a mixture of anxiety and joy.

Teachers once again are entering into new territory as each year brings with it new students whom the teachers must approach with patience, compassion, and graciousness as they educate their students. School administrators are preparing to lead their schools with a brand-new school year ahead, which will come with obstacles, challenges, and many blessings.

At the beginning of another school year, parents are in a position where they must provide guidance, love, and leadership to their children as their little ones navigate a new school year. As this school year starts, parents, however, need to be aware of some new laws that were passed during the 2025 KY legislative session that The Family Foundation supported.

These laws include HB 208, which requires school districts to have a policy that prohibits phone use during instructional time. Another law is SB 181, which requires school employees and volunteers to get parental permission to communicate with students outside of school-approved traceable communication platforms. Also, SB 19 requires schools to provide at least one minute and up to two minutes of time for a moment of silence to start each school day, which students may use for prayer.

Furthermore, SB 19 sets out a process for students to receive moral instruction during the school day, which could be used for Bible classes and more. Lastly, HB 4 bans and defunds discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs at public colleges and universities. As students are returning to school, let us remember that whatever may lie ahead in this school year, if we earnestly look to God, He will supply every need that we might have.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please bless and protect every student who is starting a new school year, whether they attend a public school, a private school, or are homeschooled. Lord, please give Your wisdom to teachers and school administrators as they educate students this year. Father, empower parents to play an active role in their child’s life this school year by providing guidance, love, and protection for them. Lord, thank you for each one of these new laws that are in place as this new school year begins. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
