Speaker Johnson Attacked for Biblical Values

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” – Matthew 5:11

House Speaker Mike Johnson has been nothing short of very public about his deeply held Christian faith. In a recent interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News Speaker Johnson stated, “I am a Bible-believing Christian… Someone asked me today in the media, ‘What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That’s my worldview.’”

In his first speech on the House floor as Speaker, Johnson noted the Biblical truth that it is ultimately God who places governing authorities in those positions. He stated, “I don’t believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this. I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority. He raised up each of you. All of us. And I believe that God has allowed and ordained each and every one of us to be here at this specific moment.”

Not surprisingly, there have been numerous attacks launched at Speaker Johnson because of his Christian convictions. Somehow opponents of Speaker Johnson have manipulated his Biblical worldview to suggest that he is a die-hard advocate for theocracy. U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin said, “Speaker Mike Johnson? Anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, anti-gun safety, anti-democracy. This is what theocracy looks like.”

CNN recently ran a false hit piece stating, “New speaker of the House Mike Johnson once wrote in support of the criminalization of gay sex.” The article was written in response to Speaker Johnson’s belief that marriage is only between one man and one woman, and once supported an amendment to Louisiana’s constitution that defined marriage in that way.

As Speaker Johnson continues to face attacks because of his Biblical convictions, it serves as a reminder that our culture is one that is increasingly hostile to Biblical values as we now live in a post-Christendom culture. It is a sad reality that Speaker Johnson is facing attacks for simply holding fast to historic Christian doctrine. At this time, however, we should be filled with thankfulness to God that He has placed a man like Speaker Mike Johnson in this extremely influential position in our nation as our country desperately needs leaders filled with God’s wisdom.

LET US PRAY…
Father, we praise You for raising up a man like Speaker Johnson who holds fast to Biblical truth no matter what issue is before him. Lord, empower him to lead in such a way that You will be glorified in the direction that our nation is heading. Father, please bless Speaker Johnson and his family as he serves in this very crucial role. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
