Let Us Pray: SBC Stands Strong For Biblical Marriage & Family

“He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” – Titus 1:9

Recently, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), which is the largest Protestant denomination in America with over 12 million members, held its annual meeting where the convention conducts business about a broad range of issues. This year, praise be to God, the overwhelming takeaway was that the SBC is committed to staying true to the Word of God and to what the Word teaches about moral issues.

As some denominations continue to drift further and further from what the Bible teaches about moral issues, it is encouraging to see the SBC stand firm on the Word of God. At the meeting, the SBC reaffirmed its commitment to the Biblical teachings on abortion, marriage, religious liberty, pornography, and predatory gambling.

One of the resolutions passed by the SBC this year clearly states that God’s design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Furthermore, the resolution called for the overturn of the egregious 2015 Obergefell decision that legalized “same-sex marriage,” noting that the decision “defied God’s design for marriage and for the family.”

The resolution called instead for laws “that affirm marriage between one man and one woman, recognize the biological reality of male and female, protect children’s innocence against sexual predation, affirm and strengthen parental rights in education and healthcare, incentivize family formation in life-affirming ways, and ensure safety and fairness in athletic competition…”

At this year’s meeting for the SBC, a body of believers did what all Christians should do, and that is to allow the Word of God to speak to and inform us about every area of life, which includes the moral issues of our day. May the Church across denominational lines take a stand for God’s Word and His truth.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for the strong Biblical stance of the SBC on the moral issues facing believers today. Lord, empower Your Church across denominational lines to stand strong for Your truth in every area of life. Father, may our nation honor Your design of marriage being only between one man and one woman. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
