One Nation Under God

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!” – Psalm 33:12

Throughout the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, many instances reveal God’s dealings with numerous nations and people. The Scriptures portray God’s decisions and actions in response to the behavior and attitudes of nations.

A theology of nations is simply boiled down to this truth, if a nation obeys the commands of God’s Word, then God will bless that nation. If a nation disobeys and neglects the commands of God’s Word, then God will withhold His blessings from that nation.

This is why the Psalmist clearly articulates “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 33:12). The Hebrew word, “blessed” that is used in Psalm 33:12, can also be translated as “happy.” The idea here is that the nation whose God is the Lord is in a desirable position of delight and protection.

To receive the blessings of God, as a collective nation, we must truly be one nation under God. Practically speaking, this means that if America desires to see the Lord once more bless our Land immensely then our country must return to obeying His Word in all ways.

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower us to be effective advocates for Your truth in our nation so that as a nation we may collectively receive Your blessings. Lord, help America to be a nation that can once more be defined as one that is under Your guidance. Father, may Your Name be lifted high and honored in this land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
