Let Us Pray

Let Us Pray: No Room for Retreat on the Hyde Amendment

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” – Proverbs 31:8

Congressman Henry Hyde in 1976 crafted the Hyde Amendment, and it has been adopted as an annual appropriation bill by the United States Congress every year since. The Hyde Amendment ensures that American taxpayers are not forced to pay for elective abortions.

In 2010, Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and it was deceptively crafted to get around the protection of the Hyde Amendment and to force taxpayer money to fund elective abortions. During the COVID-era, subsidies were pushed by the Democrats and the Biden Administration to continue to use Obamacare to funnel taxpayer money to the abortion industry, subverting the Hyde Amendment.

As there continues to be a tremendous amount of debate over extending the Obamacare subsidies in Congress, a recent statement from President Trump on the Hyde Amendment has pro-life advocates and conservatives concerned. The President called on Republicans to be “a little flexible on Hyde” during negotiations over Obamacare subsidies.

It is imperative for conservatives to reject the President’s advice here and not give an inch on the Hyde Amendment, as Americans should never be forced to fund the egregious and murderous act of abortion. Simply put, Obamacare needs to be ended as soon as possible. As negotiations move forward on the Affordable Care Act, Congress must not be flexible with the Hyde Amendment, as it is morally wrong to force the American taxpayer to fund the abortion cartel.

As we begin our “Let Us Pray” devotionals for 2026, we will be taking time during the legislative session to encourage you to pray, by name, for our elected leaders (see below). Let us commit to praying regularly for our Kentucky governmental leaders to act in ways that bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ and are a blessing to our Commonwealth.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we pray that the U.S. Congress will act to end Obamacare’s taxpayer-funding of abortion. Lord, please empower our President and conservative members of Congress to never budge an inch on the Hyde Amendment. Father, help us to continuously and diligently fight for the value of every human life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
