Let Us Pray: NFL Player TreVeyon Henderson Uses ‘My Cleats, My Cause’ to Honor Persecuted Christians

“Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” – 2 Timothy 3:12

The National Football League (NFL) has implemented an initiative called “My Cleats, My Cause.” This campaign, designed by the NFL, provides an avenue for players to wear custom-designed cleats that highlight causes and nonprofits they wish to bring to the public’s attention.

Many players’ causes are noble, such as cancer research, addressing homelessness, and more. Many of these causes are being thrust into the spotlight by the mainstream media. However, star running back for the New England Patriots, TreVeyon Henderson, recently displayed his cause on his cleats during a Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants on December 1st, and unfortunately, very little attention was given to his cause by the mainstream media.

Henderson partnered with Global Christian Relief to advocate for the persecuted global church and to bring awareness about the severe worldwide Christian persecution happening right now, especially with the current Nigerian Christian genocide. Current estimates show that around thirty Nigerian Christians are being murdered each and every day by Islamic extremists who are being empowered by the Nigerian government.

The focal point of Henderson’s cleats was drops of blood, which symbolize both the blood that our Lord shed on the cross for our salvation and the faithfulness of the persecuted church. Speaking about our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Nigeria and around the world, Henderson said, “Their faithfulness…encourages and emboldens me to be courageous and bold here in the U.S., where we face very little persecution compared to what they are facing.”

May we, as American Christians, stand united with TreVeyon Henderson in bringing awareness in any way we can, although the mainstream media largely ignores it, to the worldwide Christian persecution that is happening around the world. Let us be as strong as our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ who are literally facing death each day just because of their faith in Jesus Christ, as we advocate for them.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for TreVeyon Henderson’s strong stance in advocating for the persecuted church worldwide. Lord, empower us to bring awareness and help to our brothers and sisters in Christ who are literally facing death each day for their faith in You. Father, may we be found faithful no matter the circumstances we face. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
