Let Us Pray

Let Us Pray: National Sanctity of Human Life Day

“Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.” – Isaiah 49:1

President Ronald Reagan, on January 22, 1984, issued a presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday of January to be observed as the National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This year, the National Sanctity of Human Life Day will be celebrated by many churches on this Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Ministries, pro-life organizations, and churches across America will use this special day to honor the value and dignity of every human life. Also, this day will be used to renew and remind the pro-life movement of the work that is still needed to cultivate a culture where every life from the point of conception to natural death is cherished throughout every part of the United States.

Sadly, even with the overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion, by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 24, 2022, in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, there remains a massive amount of work to protect human life from abortion in the United States. Last year in America, there were a shocking 1,038,100 abortions committed.

Devastatingly, that means there is an average of 2,844 abortions committed every day here in the United States. Furthermore, there is another threat to human life rising in America today, and it is the push to legalize assisted suicide.

On this National Sanctity of Human Life Day, let us vow to stand and fight for the dignity of human life like never before. May we be resolved to use every ounce of our being to cultivate an America that honors and protects every life inside and outside the womb.

As we begin our “Let Us Pray” devotionals for 2026, we will be taking time during the legislative session to encourage you to pray, by name, for our elected leaders (see below). Let us commit to praying regularly for our Kentucky governmental leaders to act in ways that bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ and are a blessing to our Commonwealth.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please give us the strength and resolve we need to defend human life in our state and nation. Lord, we pray that You will open the eyes of every governing authority in our state and nation to see the sinfulness of abortion and assisted suicide. Father, we praise You for the blessing of life that You have so graciously given to us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
