Let Us Pray

Let Us Pray: Monday is Memorial Day

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

On Monday, our nation will pause to observe Memorial Day, which is a federal holiday that is annually observed on the last Monday of May. On this somber day, Americans honor members of the United States military who were killed in service whether they were deployed overseas or here in the country while training.

Many Americans will visit cemeteries, attend special Memorial Day events, and more to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in service to our beloved country. Let us make a point today to set aside some time to remember and thank God for the countless fallen soldiers who have valiantly fought for the precious freedom we have the privilege of enjoying daily.

On Memorial Day, let us also remember the numerous families who have suffered great loss due to their family members’ sacrificial service to our nation. This solemn day reminds us of the truthfulness of the American expression that states, “freedom is not free.”

The men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have given their all, their very lives, for our country have exemplified what the Scriptures call the greatest measure of love (John 15:13). On this Memorial Day, let us not focus on the unofficial start of summer or the long weekend alone, but on the ultimate sacrifice that so many have made while serving our country so that today we can live as free people in the greatest nation on earth.

LET US PRAY…

Father, thank You for the ultimate sacrifice that some American soldiers have given to protect and defend the freedom we have as Americans. Lord, please give Your peace and comfort to the families who have lost loved ones while serving our nation. Father, please protect the men and women of our military as they continue to defend our country daily. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
