Let Us Pray: Members of U.K. Parliament Vote in Favor of Assisted Suicide

“And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.’” – Job 1:21

Recently, in England and Wales, the Members of Parliament in the House of Commons voted in favor of the “Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill” by a margin of 314 to 291. The vote followed hours of intense debate where the two sides emotionally testified and argued for their point of view on the issue.

The Terminally Ill Adults Bill is a piece of legislation that has been led by Kim Leadbetter to legalize assisted suicide in the United Kingdom. This bill will allow terminally ill adults who have been given six or fewer months to live to request medical assistance to end their lives.

The “End of Life” bill only passed the House of Commons by a mere margin of 23 votes and is now on its way to the House of Lords where it is believed that there will be an even more scrutinizing debate before the bill goes to a vote. The bill could be subject to additional revisions and changes before it is voted on.

From the Christian perspective, believers must clearly understand the Biblical command to be pro-life from the point of conception to the point of natural death. God alone has the ability to give life, and God alone has the ability to take life. Scripturally, it is abundantly clear that only God has the authority to decide when one’s earthly life is over.

This vote by the House of Commons should cause serious concern for all believers as it is a direct attack on the dignity and worth of human life. Only God truly knows the days we have left in this earthly life, and no one should act as if they have the authority to know what tomorrow holds by taking the precious life that God has so graciously given to them.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please empower the House of Lords to vote down the seriously flawed and concerning “End of Life” bill. Lord, empower those in governing positions to truly understand that only You have the power to give life and take life. Father, may no form of an “End of Life” bill ever find traction here in the United States. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
