Let Us Pray

Legalized Betting Brings with It More than Just Revenue

Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live.” – Proverbs 15:27

Sports betting in Kentucky, both in-person and online, has now been legal for just a little over three months. The Commonwealth has experienced, in these last three months, an increase in tax revenue from legalized betting.

However, the legalization of sports betting has brought with it much more than just a rise in tax revenue. Over the last three months of legalized betting in Kentucky, along with the increase in tax revenue, it has also led to a soaring rise of people calling the gambling-problem hotline.

What the Commonwealth is witnessing should be of no surprise, when gambling is legalized, it brings with it a surge of gambling addiction. Unfortunately, a surge of individuals addicted to gambling leaves a surge of families hurting in multiple ways.

With the ongoing sports betting situation here in Kentucky, we must brace ourselves for the increased harm that it will inevitably bring. The continual damage that sports betting will bring to the Commonwealth will be more than just an increase in addiction problems, it will certainly also bring corruption, social costs, and deceitfulness in sports.

LET US PRAY…

Father, help our nation to have Your wisdom and see gambling as a waste of our resources that ultimately You have provided for us. Lord, may this news of increased gambling addiction since the legalization of sports betting in Kentucky be a sobering reminder to Kentuckians of the damage that gambling brings. Father, empower Your people here in Kentucky to remain strong in standing against gambling in all its forms. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
