“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” – Hebrews 13:16
Kentucky Senator Robin Webb has been a fixture in the Kentucky state legislature for quite a while now. In 1998, Senator Webb was elected to the Kentucky House and then, in 2008, she was elected to the Kentucky Senate where she currently serves today.
Her district includes Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lewis counties, and up until this point she has served as a registered Democrat. Days ago, however, Senator Webb made news by announcing that she would no longer serve as a Democrat and is switching her party affiliation to Republican.
Senator Webb noted that the change in party affiliation has nothing to do with the change in her convictions or values over the years, but with the Democratic Party’s change in values and convictions, which has placed her outside of the Democratic Party’s circle. She said, “While it’s cliché, it’s true: I didn’t leave the party, the party left me… The Kentucky Democratic Party has increasingly alienated lifelong rural Democrats like myself, by failing to support the issues that matter most to rural Kentuckians.”
She went on to note, “As the Democratic Party continues its lurch to the left and its hyperfocus on policies that hurt the workforce and economic development in my region, I no longer feel it represents my values. It has become untenable and counterproductive to the best interests of my constituents for me to remain a Democrat.” Now, out of a total of 38 members in the Kentucky Senate, Senator Webb has become the 32nd Republican member in the Senate.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we pray that You will bless Senator Webb and help her to faithfully fulfill her duties as a Kentucky state senator. Lord, we pray that the Democratic party will retreat from its advocacy of things that You clearly condemned in Your Word. Father, empower us all to always be bold for You even when it is hard. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
