Let Us Pray

Let Us Pray: Give Thanks to the Lord!

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” – Psalm 107:1

Tomorrow, all across our blessed nation, Americans will pause from their busy schedules to celebrate one of the most cherished American holidays, Thanksgiving. On this revered day, as a collective nation, we take time to gather with our family and friends to thank God for the multitude of blessings that He has so graciously showered upon us.

The genesis of Thanksgiving goes all the way back to when the Pilgrims took their first steps onto the shores of North America. As they arrived on the beaches of this continent, they sought to begin a new nation out of the new land they had discovered.

These courageous pioneers traveled far and wide in hopes of being able to start a country where they would be ensured religious freedom and where they could serve, honor, and worship God according to the teachings of Scripture in alignment with their conscience. When the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth, they focused their attention on Almighty God, where they prayed and thanked God for His blessings. Thus, the Holiday of Thanksgiving was born.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are to be people defined by our continuous thankfulness to God, as the Apostle Paul commands us to be a people who are “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything” (Ephesians 5:20). God deserves our continual thanksgiving as He is truly the giver of all the blessings in our lives, as all good things in our life are ultimately from Him (James 1:17).

May our attention this Thanksgiving and every day be focused on the bountiful blessings God has so graciously bestowed upon us. Let us follow the steps of the Pilgrims on this Thanksgiving and direct our attention to Almighty God and praise Him for the multitude of blessings in our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from The Family Foundation team!

LET US PRAY…

Father, we recognize that You are the giver of all good gifts, and we praise You for being such a wonderful Father. Lord, strengthen us to be people who are defined by our thankfulness to You for all that You have so graciously done for us. Father, above all else, we thank You for Your Son and the salvation He makes possible for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
