Let Us Pray: Dodgers’ Kershaw is as Strong in his Faith as he is on the Mound

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

In Major League Baseball, Clayton Kershaw, who pitches for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is widely regarded as one of the best active pitchers in the league and one of the best in MLB history. Some of Kershaw’s accolades from his stellar career so far include being a three-time Cy Young winner, a ten-time All-Star, a Gold Glove winner, an NL MVP, a World Series champ, and more.

Days ago, he once more publicly reinforced a truth about his life: he is as strong in his Christian faith as he is on the pitcher’s mound. The players on the Dodgers team were to wear hats with logos in rainbow colors to celebrate “pride” month.

Although Kershaw was not pitching that evening, the night ended up centering around him. As the cameras surveyed the Dodgers’ dugout, they spotted something a little bit different on Kershaw’s hat. The pitching phenom had handwritten in silver marker “GEN 9:12-16” right next to the rainbow logo. Social media blew up as the world could see the star pitcher standing strong for the faith with the simple handwritten statement on his hat.

Kershaw was reminding everyone that the rainbow is rooted in the Bible and is a sign of the covenant between God and man. In whatever ways we can, let us follow Kershaw’s actions in reclaiming the rainbow symbol as the beloved covenant that it is between God and man, and not allow it to be hijacked to represent sinful immorality.

LET US PRAY…

Father, thank You for the bold, strong, and courageous actions of Kershaw in His stance for You and Your truth. Lord, please empower Your people to exercise whatever influence that we have for Your glory and purpose. Father, strengthen us to reclaim the rainbow as the covenant symbol that it is. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
