Arizona Abortion Battle Heats Up

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” – Isaiah 40:8

In 1864, the Arizona legislature rightly and duly passed into law an almost total abortion ban. This abortion ban was in effect from 1864 all the way until 1973 when the ban was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court’s horrendous decision to legalize abortion in Roe v. Wade.

Recently, however, the Supreme Court of The Grand Canyon State ruled that once again the 160-year-old law that outlaws nearly all abortions must be obeyed. In 2022, when Roe was overturned, the ban was made enforceable once again, and now the state’s High Court has ruled to put it back into effect.

Not surprisingly, pro-abortion advocates have slammed Arizona’s Supreme Court decision to enforce the abortion ban as inferring that the law is “outdated.” Some have referred to the nearly total abortion ban as a “Civil War era law” and a “century-old zombie law.”

Essentially, what is being said by pro-abortion advocates here is this; Arizona’s abortion ban is too old and outdated to be considered good, righteous, and true for our contemporary culture. In other words, the belief is that truth is mutable and fluid as time moves on. However, from a Christian perspective, this could not be further from the truth.

Here is the point to catch, truth never changes as it is objective. God has determined truth, and He has revealed what is true, good, and righteous through the Scriptures. He has made it clear throughout both the Old and New Testaments that murder is wrong, and that life is to be protected and cherished through every facet of life. The abortion ban in Arizona was the correct, right, and just position in 1864, and it is the correct, right, and just position now, and forevermore. The truth is that abortion has always been wrong and always will be!

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You that the abortion ban was upheld in Arizona and ask that you give courage to the Arizona legislature to resist efforts to repeal the law, which would save the lives of an untold number of babies from being killed. Lord, we praise You for so graciously revealing Your truth to us through Your Word. Father, may we hold fast to Your Word and only promote policies that align with the truth of it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
