America’s national debt has recently reached a new and troubling milestone. Our national debt is now at a whopping $40 trillion. We must see this problem for what it is: a threat to our current stability and a crushing burden on future generations.
In Romans 13:3-4, the Bible reveals that God established government to promote the common good of the people under its authority. When the federal government racks up this much debt it is not upholding good for its citizens. Instead, the federal government is enslaving its citizens, since every borrower is enslaved to the lender.
In just this year alone, the national deficit is on track to reach $2 trillion by the end of this month. That, in actuality, means each American family will be burdened with $20,000 of debt, since the $2 trillion deficit is shared among American families.
America’s crushing debt is a direct threat to our stability as a nation right now. With every dollar of debt that our nation accumulates, we lose more of our freedom and national sovereignty. This debt and its obligations hinder the growth of our economy, decrease the value of the dollar, and help accelerate inflation.
It is absolutely immoral for the federal government to burden America’s younger generation with unsustainable debt. It crushes any hope for them to have a prosperous future. For their sake, it is beyond time for our national government to get its fiscal house in order. Leaders of both parties need to implement a robust and aggressive plan to get our out-of-control spending under control, so that we can reduce our debt.
America is known for the American dream. However, unless something is done about the national debt, that dream may never become a reality for America’s children.

Father, please empower our governmental leaders to start taking our national debt seriously and see the burden that it is now and will be on our nation. Lord, help our governmental leaders to develop and implement a robust and aggressive plan to start paying down the national debt. Father, we pray that the younger generations in our nation will be able to live a life of financial freedom and experience the American dream. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
