“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:11
This Thursday is Christmas, and the days leading up to Christmas are some of the most festive, joyful, cheerful, and merriest days of the year. We are now in the deepest part of the Christmas season as families are gathering to spend time with one another, eating good food, giving and receiving gifts, and much more.
The Christmas Holiday is a beautiful time of the year as many display beautiful lights and decorations on their homes, property, businesses, and more. With all of the festivities that accompany the Christmas season, it can sometimes distract us from the true meaning of Christmas. Our chief focus, first and foremost, should be on the One whom CHRISTmas is centered around, the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, and His birth.
Our chief focus this Christmas should be on the incredible truth that in Jesus, God “became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). Through the virgin birth, God sent His Son, the Savior, Christ Jesus, to earth to provide the forgiveness for sin that humanity so desperately needed, and thus, to provide a path for salvation.
Over two thousand years ago, God gave humankind the greatest gift ever given. Through the incarnation of Christ, we received a “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).” As we give and receive gifts this Christmas, may it truly direct our attention back to the greatest gift ever given, as God the Father gave us His Son, the Savior, who was born of the virgin, Mary, for our salvation.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we praise You for giving us the greatest gift ever given, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Lord, may we truly focus on the incarnation this Christmas, and the reality that in the birth of our Savior we have received a “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Father, empower us to share with our fallen world the gift of our Savior and Your Son, Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
