Let Us Pray

Recently, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announced that Medicaid would stop funding transgender procedures for children. This means American taxpayers will no longer fund these mutilating procedures, such as cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and “sex-change” surgeries for children.

CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said this was “consistent with the Trump administration’s commitment to protect children from experimental and life-altering sex-rejecting procedures that carry serious long-term health risks and lack sufficiently reliable evidence of clinical benefit.” The rule, however, will not take funding away from mental health treatments to minors who are struggling with gender dysphoria.

Along with the announcement to defund these procedures, HHS released a report titled Wolves In White Coats: How Doctors and Hospitals Pushed and Profited from the Fraud of “Gender Medicine.” The report cites estimates of about $120 million in billed charges for what they rightly call “sex-rejecting” procedures for minors since 2019.

The report explains that HHS also conducted a nationwide analysis of health insurance claims from 2015 to 2025. They found over $40 million in billing for puberty blockers for patients between 9 and 17 using the vague diagnosis of “Endocrine Disorder, Unspecified” instead of identifying gender dysphoria on the insurance claim. The report states, “this data strongly suggests a pattern of potentially fraudulent billing that relies on miscoding for endocrine disorders to justify the prescription of puberty blockers.” The report also found that the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, the primary so-called “transgender-health” organization, hosted a presentation in 2021 recommending the use of these vague codes.

HHS also reviewed national and international research on sex-change procedures on minors. The research revealed serious risks and irreversible harm to the children who had undergone the procedures. The CMS pointed to the Cass Review from the United Kingdom as a key piece of research in making the decision.

While we should be thankful for the actions taken by the Trump Administration to stop funding this practice, it was way past time. Federal dollars should never have been used to legitimize an ideology that rejects reality and mutilate children. One reason God established government is to protect its citizens, but the American government shirked its responsibilities by allowing confused and vulnerable children to be exploited.

Father, we praise You for this righteous action by the Trump administration to end taxpayer funding for transgender procedures on minors. Lord, help our government in all ways to fulfill its Biblical command to protect its people and not exploit the confused and vulnerable.
