A few years ago, the idea that open “Democratic” Socialists would have any kind of influence in the Democratic Party might have been seemed like a far-fetched notion. Yet now, that is exactly who is taking control of the Democratic Party.
America was founded on a belief in limiting government’s power, having a separation of powers, and having checks and balances. The tenets of the “Democratic” Socialists of America (DSA) are completely contradictory to the beliefs that America was founded on and that are found in the U.S Constitution.
The DSA’s new party platform makes clear that it wants a massive increase in the government’s power, and the appropriation of the economic and financial sectors. The DSA wants many of the checks and balances of the American system to be demolished. The DSA wants to abolish the Senate and the Electoral College, and significant changes the role of the president and the judiciary. The DSA has even vowed to abolish the police and prison system and rewrite the U.S. Constitution. They also want to transform the most basic institutions of humanity, including marriage, family, and human dignity. The DSA has called for “queer liberation” and for calling for a “public health emergency to restore abortion rights and gender-affirming care nationwide…”
To put it bluntly, the growing momentum of “Democratic” Socialism in the United States is a direct threat to our nation. The movement’s influence was highlighted last year, when New York City elected “Democratic” Socialist, Zohran Mamdani, as their mayor. His growing influence was seen a few months ago when three Democratic Socialists candidates, endorsed by him, won their primaries in New York. Since then, DSA supported candidate have continued to win primaries with the latest being Abdul El Sayed who won the Michigan Democratic Senate primary on Tuesday.
There are currently three DSA members serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and over 250 members serving in elected offices across our nation. In our own Commonwealth, Robert LeVertis Bell, a Democratic socialist in Louisville, will be in the Kentucky House next year. The DSA is making a lot of noise in the Democratic Party across our nation and here in Kentucky. As Christians, we must act courageously to stop the cancer of socialism from growing in America, as it will only lead to destruction.

Father, may those advocating for “Democratic” socialism realize that they are advocating for a system that has destroyed nations over and over again, as history testifies. Lord, empower the leaders of the Democratic Party to stand firm against socialism before the DSA overtakes it. Father, we praise You for our freedom in America. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
